Utilizing Technology in Basketball Coaching: Apps and Tools

In the modern era of basketball coaching, technology plays a pivotal role in enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of training sessions, game preparation, and team management. From creating detailed practice plans to maintaining seamless communication with players and parents, various apps and tools can significantly streamline a coach’s responsibilities. Here are four essential tools for basketball coaches: Underdog Hoops Play Lab, Practice Planner Live, SeasonCast and Spond.

1. Underdog Hoops Play Lab

Create Plays Within Seconds

Play Lab is the Underdog Hoops play designer, built for coaches who need to draw up plays fast and actually see them run. Tap a player and pick what they do: a cut, dribble, pass, screen, hand off or shot. The defense reacts the way a real defense would, with help side and closeouts, so your players can see why the play works and where the openings come from. Don’t feel like drawing? Type the play the way you’d call it and the AI draws it for you, or upload a short clip of film.

Features

• A Defense That Reacts: Run your play against 21 defenses and presses. Help side rotates and defenders close out, so you see the play the way it will look in a game.
• Type It or Upload It: Type a play the way you’d call it and the AI draws it, or upload a short clip of film to get it on the board.
• Sync, Print and Export: Plays sync across your devices, print as PDF playbooks, and export as videos you can share with your team.

Subscription Tiers

• Free Plan: Save up to 3 plays, a good way to try it out before you commit.
• Play Lab Pro: $9/month or $67/year, with a 14-day free trial.
• Underdog Hoops University: Play Lab Pro is included with a University membership, along with practice plans, drills, playbooks and clinic notes.
