Coach’s Gear Guide: Books, Equipment and Tools for Basketball Coaches

Every coach has a bag. Some of us carry way too much in it, and some of us show up to the first practice of the season with one dry erase marker that is already dying. After more than a decade on the sideline, from freshman assistant to head coach and now helping rebuild a program, I have learned that the right gear does not make you a great coach. It does take things off your plate so you can spend your energy on your players.

This guide is the list I would hand a first year coach. It covers the books that shape how you lead, the sideline essentials, practice equipment, player development tools, film gear, and the stuff you hope you never need but always should have.

You do not need all of it. Start with what solves a problem you have right now.
