Underdog Hoops Play Lab

Draw it. Run it. Teach it.

Play Lab is the play drawing and animation app I built for coaches who are tired of whiteboard photos, messy diagrams and plays that only make sense in their own head. Put your players on a real court, tap a player, pick the action and watch the play run, step by step, the way you’d teach it in practice.

Built for how coaches actually draw plays

Tap any player and choose a cut, dribble, pass, screen, hand off or shot, then tap where it goes. Drag your finger and cuts curl the way players really move. Set any action to happen at the same time as the one before it, so a down screen and the cut off it run together. Mark a line as an option when you want to show a read without the play actually running it. Break a set into frames and every frame starts where the last one ended. That makes it easy to teach a set one piece at a time.

Defense that reacts like a real one

The defense moves when your play runs. Help side, deny one pass away and closeouts all happen on their own. Choose from 21 defenses and presses:

• man-to-man, Pack Line and switching man
• 2-3, 3-2, 1-3-1, 1-2-2, 2-1-2 and 1-1-3 zones
• 2-3, 3-2 and 1-3-1 matchup zones
• box-and-1, diamond-and-1 and triangle-and-2
• man press, run and jump, 1-2-1-1, 2-2-1, 1-2-2 and 1-3-1 presses

Switch or hedge any screen, and trap a dribble into the corner with one tap. Your players see what the defense will do, not just where they’re supposed to run.

Describe it and the AI draws it (Pro)

Type the play the way you’d say it in a timeout, like “4 down screens for 2, 2 cuts to the corner, 5 slips to the rim,” and Play Lab puts the players on the floor and animates it. You can also upload a short clip of game film and it builds the play from what it sees. Then change anything you want on the court.

Your playbook, everywhere you coach

Sign in with your email or Google account and your plays follow you from your laptop at home to your phone on the bench. Sort plays into playbooks like BLOB package or zone offense, and search by name, formation or defense. Start fast from ready-made templates.
